London Program

August 2009 Intake

What and where did you study before your Mountbatten internship?
I studied at Arizona State University - WP Carey School of Business
Marketing and International Business

What made you apply for the Mountbatten programme?
I thoroughly enjoyed studying abroad in Ireland during my junior year in college. Graduating in 2008, with a tight job market, I came across the MB program, which seemed like a great way to gain additional international exposure both professionally and personally. The opportunity to gain experience in a bulge bracket bank was also quite appealing in terms of gaining real work experience.

Describe your placement.
I was placed in Deutsche Bank in London, specifically in an internal consulting group with the task of implementing Lean methodology across the bank. The great thing about my role was that is was a new and growing group, so I really got to make the role what ever I wanted it to be.

What was the highlight/most memorable moment of your placement during this year?
My internship covered a wide variety of tasks and gave me an opportunity to be proactive. The most memorable moment was the fact that my role led to the creation of 3 internship roles in the subsequent intake!

What was the social highlight/most memorable moment during this year?
I would say the ability to travel to so many countries while studying and working was a phenomenal experience. Almost being stuck in Iceland due to a Volcanic eruption would definitely be up there as the most memorable!

Please share a little wisdom/philosophy that you acquired during your internship
I think the ability to be flexible and open minded. We had the opportunity to be exposed to so many cultures, through work and every day life. Sometimes this created good and bad encounters, but they were all learning experiences.

If you could change anything about your internship, what would it be?
If I could change anything about the internship it would be.......

What happened after completing the year - what did you do next?
I went on to do the MBA program in Asia and then landed in New York. My contacts from my internship landed me a role with my sponsor company.

Where are you now in your working life and what do you do?
I have been living/working in New York for the past 6 years. I originally worked for Deutsche Bank, then Citigroup. I have now come full circle back to the world of Real Estate, where I had originally started my professional career. I have been working for Elegran Real Estate & Development for the past 4 years. We are a full service brokerage firm with a primary focus on residential real estate in the 5 boroughs. We service first time homebuyers to large investment portfolios.

Do you have any future plans that you would like to realise & what are they (career & social)?
Possibly to run my own real estate firm down the road.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Easy going, Positive, Amiable.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I have run 4 half marathons and will be running the New York Full Marathon this year. I am raising funds for The Pink Agenda, which supports breast cancer research. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and for a great cause!
