London Program

March 2016 Intake

How did you get into this line of business ?
I've worked for a number of Tech companies that provide Enterprise solutions and whilst on the Mountbatten Program, worked in Corporate Banking at Barclays. This combination of working in tech and finance definitely lured me to working in the FinTech space, particularly after seeing first-hand the inefficiencies in banking. Furthermore, working in London exposed me to a number of great FinTech startups which has definitely helped in setting up the business in Malaysia and coming up with new ideas.

How did you go about setting it up and getting established?
A lot of paperwork!

What else is in the pipeline?
We are going through a round of funding so that is the immediate focus. Once that is complete, merchant acquisition and scaling the business is our top priority. Besides that, we view software as never being complete - there are always improvements to make, so product enhancements will always be in the pipeline.

What has been the proudest moment in your working life thus far?
Getting a large Public Listed Company in Malaysia to sign up to our service.

What has been your biggest mistake/learning experience?
To be honest, it's hard for me to pick out a single experience for both. I'm constantly making mistakes and learning from them. Often, my best learning comes from when I make mistakes. It's how you deal with those mistakes that is important.

Any words of advice/wisdom would you impart to others thinking of setting up their own business?
Just do it. You're never going to be 100% ready so don't think too much.
