Alum of the month

Scott Bilthouse
August 2007 - London

"But I learned two very important life lessons that year... If I was going to be away from my friends and family, then I had better make the most of it. Secondly, once I had acclimatised to my new situation and culture, I started getting involved in some really cool things. What I learned through the experience is how important, and how healthy it is, to be involved in something bigger than yourself, even if it means sacrificing some of your own comforts and interests."

March 13 Completion & Awards Ceremony - New York

On Thursday 6th March 2014, trainees, staff, professors and guests gathered for the March 2013 Completion Ceremony in New York at the Union League Club in Midtown Manhattan. The ceremony started with a flourish as the Directors and professors were piped in by bagpipes. This intake was celebrated by its diversity, coming from 23 countries, and enjoyed an entertaining speech from their chosen Valedictorian Toby Gowan. Dr Paul Beresford-Hill handed out the awards of the evening, seven of the intake received awards along with their certificates: Persephone Barda, Chris Chilton, Hannah Jones, Graham McDonald, Jaryd Pitts, Ayneesh Sharma and Vera Zhang. Vera was the big winner as she received 2 awards! The special guest speaker was Rvd George William Rutler, author of seventeen books and broadcaster for twenty seven years. Rvd Rutler himself has experienced life and study abroad, gaining degrees from not only US but also from the UK and Italy. He is very supportive of the Programme and the international experience and exposure its participants gain, broadening and inspiring their personal outlook on life.

Other guests included St George's Society President Bob Titley and his wife Patty, John Shannon, Sean Kelly and Anna Titley, also from the St George's Society and Mary Fonti and Joanne Medvecky from the Order of the Holy Sepulchre. The evening was a great success, always bitter sweet celebrating the success and experiences of the year and sadness that it has to come to an end. But the group did not let that dampen the mood of the night and great fun was had by all! Full details & Photo album.

A day in the life of...

Rosie Duffield (September 2008 - New York), who was our Alum of the month for November 2012, has been working as the Weekend Breakfast presenter at BBC Radio Lincolnshire since June 2013 ("It's the best job I've ever had!". She works three days a week, with one day for show prep and two mornings on air. Rosie is also the Albums Editor for website Muso's Guide, which keeps her busy on her days off from presenting - but she's often called in to cover other shifts on the radio, so she might present Afternoons or Drive.

"Anyone who knew me on my Mountbatten intake will be amused to hear that I get up at 4am Saturday and Sunday - I like my sleep, so the early starts are a bit of a struggle! I'm at work by 5am to check over the scripts one more time, make sure my audio is in the playout system in the right order and get the news and weather together - I read the bulletins for the first hour before the newsreader arrives." Jobs

Aldermore Bank in London, which continues to expand, is now recruiting for an Employee Communications Manager. In addition, we have been contacted by another alum based at Google in Mountain View, California, where they are currently looking for an HR Coordinator. This would be ideal for someone who has had HR experience during their Mountbatten year. Full details of all of these and other current roles, can be found on our alumni website.
