June 2016 Edition

Fly Your Own Flag

This month there is plenty to tell you about. Against the backdrop of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's 90th Birthday celebrations, Euro 2016 football tournament, the Wimbledon Championship, the EU Referendum, and U.S. Presidential Elections, one would be forgiven for thinking there was space to think about anything else! However, it takes more than all of these major events to deter Mountbatten alumni from forging ahead with their own projects. You can see for yourself in this issue as we feature 2 more entrepreneurs; our Alum of the Month has released a TV programme pilot (with 2 other alumni from the London programme as well); and we have an alum fundraiser training for Lake Placid Ironman.

Don't forget, if you have any comments or news of your own, do contact us as we enjoy showcasing such a diversity of talent, achievements and activities. Any summer weddings, anyone?

She Builds Brands!

On Wednesday 8 June we were delighted to hold a special presentation by Alumni Kubi Springer (New York, Sep 2001) to our current Trainees in New York. We were very fortunate that Kubi was visiting New York and generously offered to give a personal branding presentation. It was a fantastic, inspiring and engaging evening. Kubi was able to draw on her experience as an alum of the programme to use examples in her presentation, which really resonated with the group.

They were truly inspired and motivated by the evening, particularly with all that Kubi has accomplished since her time on the Programme. Kubi has her own company SheBuildsBrands and is an expert in brand marketing. She has worked with some of the top brands and is considered an influencer in her space. Her placement in NY was with Information Management Network. Thank you very much Kubi!

If you are also interested in learning more about your personal brand Kubi has a handy DVD covering this, which you can purchase on her website – it's well worth it!

Quinn for the Win Ironman

On July 24th, Brendan Droge (London, March 2012) is going to be doing the Lake Placid Ironman on behalf of his friend and former college rugby teammate Pat Quinn, who was sadly diagnosed with ALS four years ago. ALS, which stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Quinn for the Win is his foundation. In his honour, Brendan will be completing the Ironman event comprising (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run), which he says has "long been on my bucket list". He explains how "after hearing my friend and former Iona ollege rugby teammate Pat Quinn speak about his four-year battle with ALS at the Iona Gala in April, I decided to turn my 140.6 mile journey into a fundraising opportunity for Quinn for the Win". Brendan welcomes any donations to help support Pat and his wife Jenn in finding a cure for this disease. Go to Brendan's fundraising page

Stashbee Update

We have a recent update from David Mantle (New York, September 2007), whom we featured as an entrepreneur in our February issue. David had set up Stashbee (It's Airbnb for boxes, over 5 months ago, and it is growing so quickly) they've now got over 100 Hosts. David says "it's an exciting time at Stashbee HQ! We've made it into the Papers". Recently The Times, The Mail Online, and The Sun all wrote features about them. They've also been featured in industry publications such as Inside Self Storage, ExtraSpace Storage. Their other news includes the following updates: We were on Share Radio; we have a video feature in the BBC News due to be released soon; we recently participated in Uber PITCH; Maria, our first intern, has joined the Stashbee Team; and we're planning for the next step in the Stashbee journey and the investment needed to get us there… watch this space! If you would like to keep up with their progress you can follow them on Facebook.

Universities in the Spotlight

Austin Martin (London, September 2003), one of our entrepreneurs this month, graduated from Miami University Oxford, OH in May 2003. Miami University has sent a steady flow of candidates to us since 2001, and continues to provide quality applicants for our London programme.

Our Day in Life of, Kim Renwick (NY, March 2010) is a graduate of The University of Manchester. We have a long established history with this university having received over 60 candidates since 2003. We hope to continue and develop both of these relationships further in the future. Manchester University/Mountbatten alumni are currently employed in prestigious companies such as Blackrock, J P Morgan, Kallaway and Sony Music Entertainment.

Jobs

Populus Brands (a Branded Entertainment Business Development company in Valley Village, CA) which employs our Alum of the Month Max Heavenrich-Vassilos, is currently looking to fill an Administration Assistant/Production Assistant role. This is a Mountbatten alumni-friendly company, so if you are interested contact Max. All the other live jobs are on our website, so take a look if you are seeking a job change.

In addition, we've got an update from Robert Walters regarding the NY March 2015 intake, with their latest stats: "Following a successful registration event in April of this year, Robert Walters were very pleased to be able to help many of the top calibre Mountbatten graduates secure roles.  Candidates secured roles in operations, legal, support and risk functions across global investment banks such as HSBC and Morgan Stanley, and on the buy side at State Street. 1 in 5 of the candidates we registered were successful in securing roles, and 30% of all candidates had interviews through Robert Walters with leading global organisations. For those candidates that are still in the market, many are still actively interviewing, and so we hope it will be a matter of time before they too secure positions. We find the returning candidates are very much in demand in the London market, and we are very pleased to help candidates in continuing their successful careers in London."
