Spring into Action!

We are delighted to tell you that within just a few weeks of launching our new alumni platform, Mountbatten Connect, we have almost reached 1,000 members! This is great news, and we can already see the results of the increased alumni participation, with members posting 27 new jobs, as well as their own events; and making connections with alumni across the globe. We hope you enjoy the increased interaction, and look forward to seeing the site grow.

This month we feature 2 entrepreneurs with quite different businesses; our Day in Life of focuses on the cultural experience of an American national living in Amsterdam; and we also have an alum fundraiser who is attempting a Quadrathlon (all the details below). Our Star Feature follows London professional private dating agency Social Concierge launching it's dating events and private club in New York. Ideal for single, professional 20 & 30 somethings!

N.B. We would love to hear from other alumni living abroad again for another cultural feature. Please get in touch with Vicki if you would like to share your experiences with our alumni.

London dating transfers to The Big Apple

Our Star Feature this month highlights the launch of Social Concierge in New York (as of February 2017). From previous newsletters, some of you may already be familiar with Social Concierge singles events, which have been extremely successful in London, and now the founder, alum Nana Wereko-Brobby (New York, March 2009), a graduate of Edinburgh University, is taking her formula Stateside as well. Primarily geared towards single professionals in their 20s and 30s, Social Concierge monthly events allow individuals to tap into the extensive private singles network in New York, for which the agency received more applications in Manhattan in one month than they did in a year in London!

As Nana goes on to explain, "Infamous in London for attracting the city's most eligible 20/30 something singles, the Social Concierge team will be hosting monthly events in NYC for members – getting singles offline to meet in chic, curated settings. Introducing the Just Friends Format. For their April 5th event, Social Concierge is Apply to join the fun with press code 'CAPOTE':introducing their signature party – Just Friends. Members attend with a friend of the opposite sex who they're not interested. This format borrows from the Trash/Treasure parties of '90s New York. Alum
of the Month

Ali-Reza Panjwani
New York, August 2013

"Immediately after the Programme, I returned to London, and got a position as an Associate in the JP Morgan & Chase Chief Operating Office. 16 months later, I was offered a relocation back to New York, to work for the same team I had done my Mountbatten training with... Fast forward 8 months and I was lucky to have been promoted to VP, which was a massive show of faith despite my tender age. The two years subsequent to Mountbatten has truly been surreal – the Programme has played a key role in opening up doors of opportunity and success; something that I will always be grateful for."

March 16 Awards Ceremony - London

On Wednesday 22nd February, students, staff and guests gathered for the March 2016 intake awards ceremony at The Brewery in Moorgate. The evening began with a drinks reception, which was followed by the main ceremony. Gary Ball (Deputy Director General) presented the awards to candidates, while speeches were given by our alumna Sarah Hatcher (September 2005 – New York) who is Marketing & Business Development Consultant with her own company; Jessica Krieger (MBA Programme Participant), Alexandra Hunter (MA Programme Participant) and Vikas Gupta (PGC Programme Participant). The speakers entertained the audience, sharing their experiences plus a little wisdom learned along the way. Other staff and guests included Dr Melissa Willby (our Academic Director) and Dr Geoff Paul (Academic Director at St Mary's University).

Following the ceremony, dinner was served in the Upper Sugar room where there was a buoyant atmosphere, and towards the end of the meal there was a slideshow of the March 2016 intake's year. This group had a real sense of cohesiveness, which was really positive to experience. Mountbatten would like to congratulate and wish the best of luck to all participants, and ask them to stay in touch as their professional lives progress.

Barbara Sellmeyer

Barbara, a graduate of Rollins College, set up Kompass Concepts, a new-age strategic consulting service specializing in helping clients revolutionize their marketing and brand development. Barbara founded the company last year and now works as a brand strategist to help entrepreneurs through medium-sized businesses develop customizable and sustainable marketing plans that correlate to their sales strategy. Barbara was hired straight after completing the Programme by a designer based out of NYC, whom she interviewed for her paper. She was able to set to work immediately putting her ideas into action. She carried these experiences through three different marketing focused roles before identifying a need in the marketplace for hands-on guidance for companies branding for the first time or looking to revamp their image to keep up with their goals. She is able to help clients understand marketing from a business perspective as the fundamental piece that determines how a brand will perform in the marketplace. Barbara’s aim in starting Kompass was to use this perspective to give brands the power to tell their story in a way that fits within their resources. Read full article.
