July 2017 Edition

Lucky Dip

Welcome to the July issue of our newsletter, which contains a wide variety of features reflecting the diversity of our alumni, their activities, projects and interests all over the globe. This edition comprises all the usual sections, but in addition a couple of items we would like to highlight. Firstly, our new CEO of our New York office, Richard Sexton, has implemented a Fantasy Football League competition starting with the English premier league in August and then the NFL in September. All the details are below, but it is free to enter and there is a great prize for the winner. Also, we are aiming to run some special 10, 20 or 30 years on features during forthcoming issues, please see below for the details. In addition, don't forget to see our In the News Section, which has lots of different alumni updates such as awards, articles, and even a food blog.

Our alumni platform, Mountbatten Connect is currently advertising 37 jobs, and various events/articles all posted by alumni. The membership continues to grow, with it heading fast towards the 1,500 mark. In fact, we even had an alum from 1988 joining recently, and there is a huge diversity of networking connections.

Lastly, we saw this article about Reverse Culture Shock recently published in The Guardian online, and with the August intakes on both continents soon to come to complete their year, we thought some of you may find this a comforting and interesting read as you head back to your home countries.

10, 20 or 30 Years On?

Are you an alum from the 1987, 1997, or 2007 intakes from either Programme? If 2017 marks your 10, 20 or 30 year anniversary since setting off for your Mountbatten year, please get in touch with Vicki. We will be compiling a special issue this year and would like to feature as many of you as possible.

NY City Challenge

On Saturday July 15th, 2017 a group of 16 current NY Programme trainees got up early (no not a typo!!) and competed in the NYC City Challenge to raise funds for St George's Society of NY charity. They jumped over police cars and crawled through mud to complete the obstacle course. Some of you participated in this when you were on the Programme so we thought you would enjoy seeing this year's team photos. They all successfully completed the course and finished as a team!

In a nutshell: It's America bite by bite - from coast to coast Anne features the best of the west and I cover the feasts of the east. We're asking for your support, and to check it out and let us know of any food recommendations you'd like to be featured".

David Taylor (New York, August 2012) along with his friend Kyle "Wolfy" Hamilton, took part in the infamous Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon earlier this month. David says "It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I'm walking like a Tin Man now, but it felt great to finish and we smashed our fundraising target". Congratulations to David and Kyle for their incredible achievements.
