Giving Thanks

These are very exciting times for 2 of our entrepreneurial alumni, one of who's business is expanding from London into Paris (and creating 8 new cutting edge jobs in the process) and another who's business has been featured in the press recently.

The alumni network reach continues to expand, with one of our current London trainees doing charity fundraising for a charity set up by a New York programme alum (See our Special Feature).

Add into the mix our Alum of the Month, who in 1994 was one of the first Australians to take part in the New York Programme (then her younger sisters (twins) also did it!), and you see how this incredible network continues to grow and thrive.

Mountbatten Connect membership has now reached over 1,700 members, and is enabling alumni to post and fill their own jobs, set up their own reunions and events, as well as acquire new mentors and connections.

Greetings to all those celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend!

Mountbattens give back

Anuja Sheth (London, March 2017) volunteers with North London Cares (which was coincidentally set up by NY programme alum Alex Smith (New York, September 2007), and has managed to convince her team at Thomson Reuters to run 5km across London dressed as Santa Claus to help raise money for the organisation. Anuja explains, "along with my amazing team at Thomson Reuters, On December 6th, I will run a brief distance of 5 km across the city of London, dressed as Santa Claus, because; a) it's the warmest thing I own, and b) to raise money for an amazing organization I volunteer with – North London Cares"

Help Anuja to reach her target of £480. To know exactly what it will be used for, go to her fundraising page.

Alum
of the Month

Natasha Winter
New York January 1994

"I was one of the first five Australians to undertake the Mountbatten Programme... New York City was a world away from Sydney, Australia (Sydney in 1991 almost felt like a country town in comparison to the size, population and buzz of NYC). I immediately felt the energy and vibrancy of being in New York, there was a magic about the city that just made me stand taller and dream bigger. My sisters (who are twins), ended up going the following year in the September 1995 intake."

Entrepreneurial Update

Alex Lee

New York, August 2012

Alex, who co-founded The Plum Guide in 2015, has an exciting update to share with us, including the details of 8 new positions his organisation is looking to fill both in London and Paris. Alex explains: "The Plum Guide is building a marketplace of the world's best holiday homes. We are taking a systematic and obsessive approach to testing every single home on the planet, and accepting only the top 1%. We do so by putting every home through The Plum Test: a gruelling hospitality exam, which uses a mix of algorithms and physical visits by hospitality experts. We launched 20 months ago in London. Since then, we have grown at 20% month on month, vetted over 80,000 homes and are on track to reach over £10m in annualised sales! We are backed by an all-star cast investor group including Local Globe (TransferWise, OneFineStay, Citymapper), Alex Chesterman (Founder of Zoopla), William Reeve (Founder of Love Film), Alex Saint and Troy Collins (Founders of Secret Escapes), Errol Damlin (Founder of Wonga), Jason Goodman (Founder of Albion) and many more. We have just closed our Series A round of funding. Now the exciting work begins. We have huge ambitions to maintain our rocket-speed growth."

A Day In The Life

Alec Butler

London, March 2016

Alec has worked as a Business Intelligence Consultant at Pomerol Partners, based in Chicago since finishing the Programme this year. He got the job whilst he was in Thailand completing his MBA, and was "excited to join, because they were such a great company to work for while I was in London. The bonus is I really enjoy my work and the people I have daily interactions with...[the culture] is very organic. We have a great start up mentality and open work environment. I get to sit across from my direct superiors and be part of important meetings quite frequently". A memorable work moment involved a work trip to Strasberg, Germany with co-workers where Alec experienced a great ERP seminar and seeing some "unforgettable" sights of the German countryside. In The News

Entrepreneur Tahlia Gray (New York, March 2011) of Sheer Chemistry, is excited to be featured in 2 publications this month, WGSN Insider and the Financial Times. Read what the publications had to say about Tahlia's expansive range of "nude" tights!

Other news includes Mountbatten staff members, trainees and alumni were in New York recently to attend the annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth Garden on November 12th 2017.

On November 9th, some 50 plus Mountbatten alumni mingled, chatted and reminisced with Mountbatten staff from both the London and New York Programmes at Patch St Paul's in the City of London. Alumni guests came from a cross section of intakes, some "old" and some more recent, as well as a couple from the London Programme who reside in the city. The atmosphere was positively buoyant, and after a brief speech, when Richard Sexton MBE, our new CEO of the NY office, outlined ways alumni can continue to support and protect the Mountbatten legacy, the conversations, drinks and nibbles continued well into the night.
