Spring Has Sprung!

There's nothing like a spring breeze to kick start new action plans. This newsletter is bursting with accounts of our alumni's endeavours, whether they are entrepreneurial/business, academic, charitable causes, or even publishing their first books!

In addition to this you can see in the lefthand header photo (above) the recent Graduation at Chester Cathedral to celebrate the achievements of the New York August 2016 MA cohort, including Annie Armstrong, Laura Denton, Sara Gray, Fariza Mohamedsha, Elizabeth Oseni, Deepa Patel, Thayson Pinedo and Eugene Wyniaskji. 10 Years On...

Mountbatten Program's host organisations recognized the benefits of connecting onshore-offshore teams about a decade ago. Several, such as Deutsche Bank, UBS, Bank of America, and Credit Suisse took a leap of faith and invested in their high potential talent, sponsoring selected employees’ participation in Mountbatten’s one-year program that included working, living, and studying abroad components.

The companies' investment in B2B exchanges paid off: hosts experienced an above-average 80% retention rate three years post-program. Host companies were able to tap into B2B exchange participants’ enhanced domain knowledge, heightened communication skills, and cross-cultural flexibility, and fast-track their careers. In short, a win-win situation for companies and employees.

Here are two of our B2B program alumni, celebrating their ten-year Mountbatten program anniversary, in their own words.

Alum becomes a Published Author

Anum Abdullah MBA (New York, August 2015) an Aston University graduate, has recently achieved the incredible feat of getting a book published! "The Never Ending Life" is available to order worldwide from Amazon and from Amazon & Waterstones in the UK.

Anum explains, "this book is part of my MB experience as I started writing it while working on my dissertation for my MBA in Thailand. Being in a foreign country with a language barrier and culture shock, I felt writing was a great way for me to express myself as well as a de-stresser, while working on such an important piece of work that has massively contributed to my career".

Anum has been writing since she was at school; poetry, short stories and creative writing. She goes on to explain, "One of my poems actually got published in the local newspaper when I was only 8 years old! For me it is an outlet for emotions and feelings that often build up inside a person. I also enjoyed writing about my experiences as I felt they were an add-on to photographs that we take to create memories. With this book, I started with writing short stories in the form of blogs, and once I had written about a wide range of topics, I decided to put it all into a book as advised by many of my readers, friends and audience."

Alum
of the Month

Duncan Manhattan
New York, March 2010

"I moved back to London and used the technical skills I'd learned during my internship to get a job with a little website called Gumtree. As the only analyst in the company, I was able to learn about all of the areas involved in running a rapidly growing online business. With the team expanding from 1 to 8 analysts I decided to specialise in analytics, big data and business intelligence, and within a few years I went from knowing nothing about web analytics to managing web and app analytics globally for >70 of eBay Classifieds Group's platforms.
